Jaq Athorn
Position:
Trauma Worker
As a teenager, I experienced anxiety, low mood, and anxiety-driven OCD with intrusive thoughts. I struggled to manage my emotions and lived in a mostly trauma brain. There were several factors leading to my poor emotional wellbeing, and due to not having self-awareness or emotional regulation I took some of these symptoms into adulthood. Today, I feel privileged to work alongside children and young people who have lived, or are living with, challenges which affect their mental wellbeing. As their ‘wing-woman’, they take me on their journey whilst seeking ways to enable and empower themselves. By collaboratively working, the child or young person gains a better understanding of themselves which encourages growth for a more positive future for them and others. My work is my passion.
When not working, I enjoy the simple pleasures in life; my furkids and family, friendships, gardening, learning, and most of all mother nature.
